Access tunnels to the underground laboratory
A series of 1600m2 tunnels are accessible under the Somport tunnel... they allow you to open the door of a parallel world dedicated to astro-particle research. Hall A is the main laboratory hosting many of the experiments in progress.
Radon Reduction System
LSC is interested in developments associated with the improvement of the radio- purity of materials and of the techniques necessary for their characterization. The radon reduction system is part of these techniques.
High-purity Germanium (HPGe) detectors in Hall C
All relevant materials used in the building of the detectors, have been screened for radiopurity using HP Ge detectors in the low background of the laboratory.
Lead shields
The employees of the Canfranc underground laboratory ensure the proper functioning of devices and protocols to control all the good conditions of these experiments. Lead shields are used in different experiments.
NEXT The Neutrino Experiment with a Xenon Time projection chamber
intends to search for neutrinoless double beta decay. The observation of this phenomena would imply total lepton number violation and would show that neutrinos are Majorana particles require excellent energy resolution to eliminate background events.
DArT in ArDM Argon Dark Matter project
Argon Dark Matter (ArDM) is a direct dark matter experiment for Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs) searches. DArT at ArDM is a proof-of- concept for a facility to determine the radio- purity of argon with high precision.
