Treatment of the winemaking process effluents

Vila Nova de Gaia – Porto
Amongst the numerous wineries in this wine-producing area in the heart of the Porto Protected Designation of Origin and at the mouth of the Douro River, the installation of a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) at a group of winegrowers in order to purify the water before it is discharged into the river is becoming an increasingly common practice. The stakes in this highly touristic area at the mouth of the Douro River are high, in order to preserve the quality of the river's water and the surrounding bathing water. The entire wine industry is aware of this need for treatment, but there are still significant delays in investment.
